New electric Toyota SUV: So far, what do we know?

This new SUV concept will feature an upcoming electric SUV, which will kick off a rapidly expanded range of electric vehicles, at the Shanghai motor show next week. The model, as it has been unnamed, will be similar in dimensions to the Toyota RAV 4 (which is anticipated to be in operation in India soon), but it is set to have a new name as a dedicated Battery Electric Vehicle. Toyota says the SUV will be constructed at its Japanese dedicated zero Emissions Factory and has been adapted specifically for the European market.

The new e-TNGA-platform that Toyota has co-developed with Subaru will be the first of six BEVs planned. This design is highly adaptive and can be used for different lengths and wheelbases of vehicles. It can also be used in forward, rear, and four-wheel drive motors with a wide range of battery capacities and motors across both axles. Toyota also argues that it will be able to improve its battery life and range through the learning from its hybrids.

What else on the e-TNGA platform is planned?

Toyota said earlier that the compact SUV that it is developing with Suzuki, a crossover, an extensive SUV, a sedan, and an MPV is all other models planned for the e-TNGA platform. Toyota also invests in battery solid-state research and says that in the first half of the 2020s it plans to launch a BEV “mass-produced” that will be using this transformative technology.

What are Toyota’s other electrical models expected?

In 2021, Toyota will also be launching BEV versions of its world-famous Proace and Proace City transporters in addition to the new electric SUV. The company is committed to offering a variety of electrifying models, including hybrid, hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cell models with the arrival of Toyota-based e TNGA-based models. By 2025, 5.5 million electric cars are to be sold annually.

The SUV will also be part of a rapidly growing international SUV range. Toyota’s crossover range now includes Yaris Cross, C-HR, Highlander, and Land Cruiser, as well as similar size, the RAV4 with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
