Kia Niro

Next week, the second-generation Kia Niro will debut at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show. It will be teased ahead of its public debut. The Niro is the newest in a series of significant innovative products by the company as it transforms to become a provider of “sustainable mobility solutions.”

  • Will take design ideas from the 2019 HabaNiro concept.
  • Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric powertrains are expected to be available.
  • By 2023, the all-electric e-Niro is planned to arrive in India.

At the Seoul Mobility Show, Kia will reveal the production-ready version of its revised compact crossover, barely a week after revealing its futuristic EV9 large SUV concept. The Niro, Kia’s first electric production car, paved the way for a whole family of bespoke EVs, including the forthcoming EV6. The e-Niro, unlike the EV6, employs a modified version of a combustion car’s platform, and the second-generation vehicle is intended to do the same. Kia has not confirmed whether it will continue to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains.

New Kia Niro Design and interior

The Niro will depend on visual cues first seen in the 2019 film HabaNiro concept, which means it will be more blatantly SUV-styled with rugged components to foster an “adventure-ready mentality,” as the first official preview photographs confirm this.

In keeping with Kia’s sustainability initiative, the new Niro is also inspired by nature like the EV9. According to the brand, the design will “link eco-friendliness with joy and driving pleasure.”Kia will offer a two-tone paint scheme – unavailable currently – and have redesigned the ‘tiger nose’ grille.

The interiors of the concept cars feature an asymmetrical center console, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a twin-screen dashboard inspired by the upcoming EV6.

How soon will the new Kia Niro be available in India?

Our attention now turns to India, where the all-electric second-generation Niro is expected to debut soon. By 2024, the Korean automaker and its sister company Hyundai plan to release up to six all-electric cars (three each). They include the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, both of which are based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, as well as made-for-India mass-market EVs, which are expected to arrive in 2024.

The new e-Niro, like the Hyundai Kona Electric, will be made on a CKD basis that will go on the market in 2023 “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
