Audi Q5 facelift

The Audi Q5 facelift will be unveiled in India on Nov 23. Since April of last year, the Q5 has been absent from Audi’s Indian portfolio while the business transitioned to BS6 regulations. It is, however, making a reappearance as a facelifted SUV that runs on gasoline only.

Audi has started accepting orders for the Audi Q5 facelift, which will cost Rs 2 lakh and be available for purchase online or at Audi dealerships. Audi has introduced the facelifted Q5.

  • The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Audi Q5 facelift will produce 249 horsepower.
  • It will be available in two trim levels
  • Rivals include Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 in terms of Premium Plus and Technology.

What’s new in the Audi Q5 for 2021?

The exterior cosmetic changes to the new Q5 are minor, but they add together to give the SUV a much more modern look. The front of the Q5 has a bigger and broader hexagonal grille with vertical chrome strips. The bezel that held the headlamps in place is also missing. The headlamps, on the other hand, have been completely redesigned, with new inlays and an LED light signature. The front bumper has been chiselled with new brushed aluminium inlays and revised side intakes.

In profile, the revised Q5 rides on larger 19-inch ‘S-design’ alloy wheels. The back LED lights have been replaced with a brushed aluminium strip. The rear bumper has been altered to give it a more sporty look.

The alterations on the inside are slight, but the focus is definitely on technology. The display in the centre has been improved from an 8.3-inch touchscreen (with a rotary dial) to a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen. It has Audi’s latest MIB 3 infotainment system, which is said to be ten times faster than the previous model. The Q5 also comes with linked car technologies and Amazon’s Alexa platform as an extra bonus.

There will be new piano-black accents, a wireless charger, a B&O Premium 3D Sound System, and Audi’s Park assist. Audi has thankfully preserved the traditional climate control buttons and dials on the new Q5. The 2019 Q5 will come with eight airbags, including side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution, and traction control.

For the Audi Q5 facelift, there are a variety of powertrain options.

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol TFSI engine that produces 249hp and 370Nm and has been updated to satisfy BS6 regulations will power the Q5 facelift. This engine is also available in the A6 in India, although in a somewhat different form. All-wheel drive is standard, and the engine is mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission.

While the pre-facelift Q5 had a 2.0-litre engine, the updated Q5, like other Audi vehicles in India, will only be offered in petrol.

Pricing and competition for the Audi Q5 facelift

When it is unveiled, the new Audi Q5 will compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. It’ll probably set you back between Rs 58 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
