The Toyota Hilux pickup vehicle will make its debut in India on January 20. The Toyota Hilux is still available for booking with a payment of Rs 1 lakh. Hilux deliveries will commence in March of this year. In the niche market of lifestyle pickup trucks, the Toyota Hilux will fight against the Isuzu D-Max.

  • The Hilux uses the same platform as the Innova and Fortuner.
  • Interior components and features are believed to be shared with the Fortuner,
  • It has a 2.8-litre diesel engine.

Toyota Hilux underpinnings and engines

The Hilux is built on the IMV-2 platform, which is also used by the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. As a result, various components, including the engine, transmission, four-wheel-drive system, and suspension, will be shared. The Hilux is 5,285mm long with a 3,085mm wheelbase. The Fortuner is 4,795mm long.

The Innova Crysta and Fortuner, on the other hand, are both built-in in India, so keeping costs down shouldn’t be an issue.

The Hilux will have four-wheel drive and be powered by the Fortuner’s 2.8-litre diesel engine, which produces 204 horsepower. With a peak torque of 500Nm, this engine should fit properly on the load transporter. There will be a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Toyota Hilux Exterior and Interior

While the Hilux’s basic design is similar to that of the Fortuner, the truck’s visage is clearly different. A redesigned hexagonal grille, swept-back LED headlamps, and a more robust bumper has been added to the Hilux. When viewed from the side, the Hilux’s length is most evident, and the double-cab appearance will be quite rare in India. The back end, on the other hand, looks like most regular pickup trucks.

In India, the Hilux is likely to share a lot of the Fortuner’s interior décor and features. The dashboard, steering wheel, and seats are all supposed to remain unchanged. The Hilux is expected to come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This means the Hilux’s interior will be functional and pleasant, albeit second-row legroom will be limited in comparison to the Fortuner. Closer to the introduction, the entire list of features for the India-spec model will be released.

Toyota Hilux: Price Expectations and Competitors

The Isuzu D-Max is currently India’s only lifestyle pickup truck, and when it debuts, it will be the only competitor to the Toyota Hilux. The former is currently priced between Rs 18.05 lakh to Rs 25.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). There is no word on how much the Hilux will cost, but reports say it will be approximately Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
