It is expected to cost a minimum of Rs 1.44 crore (ex-showroom, India) for the new BMW M4 Competition. The new-generation BMW M4 had its global debut in September 2020, and it has now arrived in India in Competition trim. The current M4 model features a straight-six petrol engine with all-wheel drive, as well as a radical new design language.

Engine and performance of the BMW M4 Competition
Let’s start with the engine because this is an M vehicle. A freshly redesigned twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine powers the new BMW M4 Competition. This longitudinally placed engine delivers 510hp and 650Nm of peak torque in Competition trim. Note that this is not an entirely new engine, as it debuted with the X3M in India, however, it is only available in 480hp regular trim, not Competition trim.
The engine is coupled to a ZF-sourced 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, which replaces the previous generation’s 7-speed DCT. This is also the first time the BMW M4 will be available with all-wheel drive, which will be standard on the India-spec variant. According to BMW, the model can sprint from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.5 seconds and can go as fast as 250 kilometres per hour. Over the previous generation, the M4’s power and torque have improved by 60hp and 100Nm, respectively. The M Sport differential and adaptive M suspension are also standard on the new M4. Styling, of course, is a huge talking point of the new BMW M4 Competition. The new M4’s appearance has divided opinion, but it is clearly stunning from every angle.
A huge vertical grille with seven double-horizontal louvres dominates the face. A pair of adaptive LED headlamps with laser lights border the grille on either side. The front bumper is equally aggressively designed, with huge air vents and strong creases. As a sort of continuation of the grille, the bonnet also has two unique indents.
The sloping coupe roofline, air vents on the front fenders, and blacked-out 19- or 20-inch forged alloy wheels are all visible from the side. It has a boot-mounted spoiler and a sharply contoured rear bumper with a multi-channel diffuser and a pair of black chrome round tailpipes on either side. In order to save weight, the M4 Competition features a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof.
The new model is 108mm longer, 18mm broader, and 1mm taller than the previous M4 generation. It has a 45mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor, measuring 2,857mm.
The BMW M4 Competition’s interior and features
The M4 Competition’s cabin is virtually identical to the ordinary 4 Series, with a familiar design from current-generation BMW cars. It does, however, get certain M-specific touches, like a lot of carbon fibre trim. M Sport seats, an M Sport steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system with M-specific visuals and functionalities are all available.
The new BMW M4 Competition comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, 3-zone automatic climate control, 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, ambient lighting, head-up display, wireless charging and phone integration, as well as motorised front seats with memory function and lumbar support. There are six airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and other safety measures.
Although several upholstery and trim options are offered as optional extras, the interior is done in an all-black theme with Merino leather. Driving Assistant Professional package, BMW display key, M compound brakes, gesture control, BMW drive recorder, external carbon fibre package, M racing package, and more are among the optional features.
Competitors in India for the BMW M4
The Audi RS5 Sportback is the lone competitor for the BMW M4 Competition, which is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in India. The RS5 Sportback is a four-door variant compared to the two-door M4 Competition, despite the fact that the previous RS5 was a two-door coupe. The latter boasts a 450 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine and goes from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.9 seconds. While the Audi is less powerful, it is also a lot less expensive at Rs 1.07 crore (ex-showroom, India). The Mercedes-AMG C63 competes with the BMW M4 Competition, however, the latter has been discontinued in India “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
