What’s new in the MG ZS EV facelift?

The facelifted ZS EV was unveiled globally in October of last year, and the new SUV for India looks almost identical to the one offered elsewhere. For example, Astor’s smaller headlamps with new LED daytime running lighting characteristics and LED tail-lamps are identical.

Several EV-specific design elements have been added to the ZS EV. The most noticeable of them is the replacement of the classic grille with a new body-colored, blanked-off frontal piece. While the charging port is still in this grille region, it is now nicely buried on the side rather than behind the MG logo. The EV’s front and back bumpers are also redesigned, with sporty styling. The 17-inch alloy wheels have a unique design as well.

Interior and features of the MG ZS EV facelift

On the inside, the new ZS EV gets a new pseudo-carbon-fiber trim around the dashboard, but there aren’t as many visual changes. The climate control buttons have also been updated to match those found in the Astor.

In terms of equipment, the new ZS EV has a lot more. It now features a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which replaces the former 8.0-inch unit, as well as a new 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, which replaces the analog dials. A 360-degree camera and ADAS capability are also included. The ZS EV has the same camera and radar setup as the Astor for its ADAS system.

Facelift for the MG ZS EV: improved powertrain

The most significant change to the ZS EV facelift is beneath the skin. The original 44.5kWh battery pack has been replaced with a 51kWh unit, resulting in a longer driving range. The ZS EV will continue to be driven by a front-axle-mounted electric motor that delivers 143 horsepower and 353 pound-feet of torque, therefore power and torque figures will remain unchanged from the previous model.

Facelift for the MG ZS EV: Competitors

The new ZS EV will be more expensive than the Tata Nexon EV, albeit the latter will be updated with a larger battery in the near future, closing the range and performance gap. It will also compete with Hyundai’s planned Kona electric facelift “as read and reported by www.autocarindia.com”.
