What’s new in the 2021 Lexus ES facelift?
Starting with the cosmetics, the 2021 car’s changes are quite subtle. It gets the latest version of Lexus’ trademark spindle grille, as well as updated LED headlamps and new alloy wheels. The refreshed ES also receives two new paint colours: Sonic Chrome and Sonic Iridium.
The cabin also receives minor updates, the most noticeable of which is a redesigned centre console. The free-standing infotainment display is now closer to the occupants and has touchscreen functionality, while the lower control surfaces have also been updated.
The previously available cream upholstery on the ES has been replaced with black upholstery and new walnut trim inserts.
In terms of equipment, the new touchscreen is the most significant update to the ES, with the rest of the list remaining largely unchanged. The sedan is equipped with power recline rear seats, a sunroof, three-zone climate control, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a head-up display, powered front seats with memory, hands-free boot lid opening, and more, depending on the variant.
2021 Lexus ES facelift: engine lineup
The updated ES, like its predecessor, is only available with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The system combines a 178hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine with an 88kW permanent magnet electric motor – the same setup as its sister model, the Toyota Camry. The powertrain configuration generates a total system output of 218hp. Power is routed to the wheels via a CVT gearbox, which is standard.
