The BMW i4 eDrive40, the Bavarian luxury automaker’s second all-new electric vehicle after the iX xDrive40, was recently launched in India for Rs 69.90 lakh ex-showroom. On a single charge, the vehicle claims a range of up to 590 kilometers, which is the longest among the country’s other mass-market and premium electric vehicles. It also has a high-tech cabin and fast charging capabilities.
BMW was the last of the German trio to enter the market when it came to luxury electric automobiles. The iX SUV, BMW’s first all-electric model, was launched in India in December of last year, and the i4, which was recently launched, is the second BMW EV to arrive on our shores. The i4 is a CBU import, just as the iX, and comes in only one fully loaded form. Here’s all you need to know about BMW’s newest electric vehicle.
The i4 follows BMW’s new design concept, which was introduced with the 4 Series Gran Coupe. However, it does not look to be as innovative as the iX electric SUV or the impending XM hybrid. This German electric vehicle also features the world’s highest closed-off grille.
The i4 is reminiscent of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, with quad-hexagon daytime driving lights, trademark rear lights, and a slated coupe-style roofline. LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels are standard on the i4 in India. Mineral White, Skyscraper Grey, and Black Sapphire are the three exterior color options.
It has a 4,783mm length, 1,852mm width, 1,448mm height, and a 2,856mm wheelbase.
The electric car comes in two inside color schemes: Canberra Beige with black and Cognac with black. The seats are upholstered in Sensatec synthetic leather upholstery. The cabin also features oak grain wood trim, ambient lighting with dynamic contour lighting, powered front seats with two memory settings for the driver, and electronically controlled steering with memory function.
The BMW Curved Display, which includes a 12.3-inch driver information display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, comes standard on the i4. This configuration also includes the most recent version of the operating system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a voice command option with the ‘Hey BMW’ wake up sign, are other notable features.
The i4 includes features like three-zone climate control, rear-axle-only air suspension with self-leveling, cruise control, a glass roof, a 17-speaker, 464-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system, front and rear parking sensors, reversing assistant, parking assistant with lateral parking aid, a wireless smartphone charging pad, multiple airbags, cornering brake control, and more.
The i4 is powered by an 83.9kWh battery pack with 335hp and 430Nm of torque. On a full charge, it offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 590 kilometers. Aside from that, the i4 has a top speed of 250 kmph and can sprint from zero to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds.
Battery and platform
The i4 is built on a modified version of BMW’s CLAR platform, which is also used in the contemporary 3 and 4 Series models. The adjustments include making room in the sedan’s floor for the battery pack. In India, the i4 is available with a single 81.5kWh battery pack, with BMW including a 3-phase AC charger as part of an introductory offer. The battery also enables up to 205kW of DC rapid charging. The AC charger, according to BMW, takes roughly 8.25 hours to charge the battery from 0% to 100%. In the meanwhile, a 50kW DC fast charger can charge a battery from 10% to 80% in 83 minutes, while a 205kW charger can do the same in 31 minutes “as read and reported by www.carmycar.com.”
